SUPPORT to Internally Displaced Girls
Duke’s foundation will provide emergency humanitarian supports necessary and critical for the survival and safety of families displaced from various villages/Towns within the Buea municipality. On this note, Duke’s foundation will be embarking on the various projects ranging from supporting the registration of these girls in schools; distribution of food and non-food items; to provision of health and hygiene care kits. The girl children are particularly vulnerable because of the conflict, the support to the IDPs will focus especially on the most vulnerable. As the region enters a phrase of reconstruction, it is important that these girls are not left behind. Building back better should mean giving these vulnerable girls an opportunity to get an education or be trained in a trade.
SUPPORTING ACCESS TO EDUCATION GRANT
Education Grant:
The Duke’s foundation will be awarding scholarships to the best performing science students in some secondary schools around Fako Division for their excellent results at the General certificate of Education Exams, at the Ordinary and Advanced Levels for 2021. It will also provide books, teaching and classroom materials, campaigning to help young girls complete primary school, and improving water and sanitation facilities within schools.
The overall objective is to promote academic excellence to deserving students during general certificate of Education exams 2021 in the Ordinary and advanced Levels and to ensure these deserving girls stay in school and continue their education. Education grant swill be awarded to 10 girls in two rural schools.
STEM Sensitization Campaign:
In view of the Commemoration of the international day for girls in ICT and STEM to be celebrated on the 22nd April 2022, the Duke Foundation will continue its STEM advocacy campaign. The campaign will be rolled out in three schools.
Women Entrepreneurial Development:
Support the training of women engaged in small businesses agri-business and the informal sector in book keeping and organizing in cooperatives.
